This first novel introduces rookie detective constable Fiona Griffiths whose first investigation promises to be tough.  A young woman and her daughter have been found brutally murdered in a squalid Cardiff flat.  The only clue is a platinum credit card belonging to a millionaire businessman, now dead.  Unlike her colleagues, Fiona, who has dark secrets of her own, is not convinced that this is just a case of a low-rent prostitute meeting the wrong kind of client.
