New York, Walker, 1972.  First US edition.  Pen name of John Creasey, who wrote six hundred novels under no fewer than twenty-eight pseudonyms.  Ex-jewel thief John Mannering, known as the Baron, was enjoying a quiet day working at his antiques house, when the Black Knight, vowing revenge on the Baron and on Bristow of the Yard, launches a fiendish plot that finds Mannering the chief suspect in a gruesome murder/robbery.  Glue stains and card removal residue to front endpaper, light staining to boards.  Dust jacket shows typical blue stripes bleeding through from Brodart jacket.
