The Mysterious Bookshop

James Martyn Joyce, ed. - Noir by Noir West

Next to the Scandinavian countries, Ireland has been the biggest purveyor of quality international crime. Although a lot of the novels focus on Dublin or Belfast, a new anthology seeks to shake it up a bit. Noir by Noir West features dark fiction from the West of Ireland. Other than Ken Bruen and Seamus Scanlon, American readers may be unfamiliar with most of the other 28 authors, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t check this one out. Noir by Noir West features short fiction filled with menace and intrigue, with wit, wind, and rain. From small town streets in millennium Ireland to the frontline trenches of WWI, these stories represent a new departure in Irish literature, a collection of dark fiction from a new wave of Galway writers.
