The Mysterious Bookshop

Braine, John - The Pious Agent

New York, Atheneum, 1976.  Stated first American edition. Best known for his first novel, 'Room At the Top,' this exponent of the Angry Young Man school of British writers weighs in with a spy thriller in the tradition of le Carre, Deighton, and Fleming.  The usual mix of fast cars, faster women, loud guns and copious amounts of alcohol, leavened with an unusual for the genre pious Catholicism.  A bit of wear to the dust jacket including tiny tears to top spine and a torn area to front flap, possibly 'price torn.'  Bookplate sticker to front free endpaper.  $10.00.

We are devoted to all things mysterious, from hard-boiled hardcovers to pulpy paperbacks, suspected signings and whispers around town.
